Launch Help

This section provides help if you are unable to launch the simulation.

Disabling Pop-up Blockers

Pop-up blockers are handy tools that stop unwanted pop-up adverts appearing on your screen. However, sometimes they will also stop you seeing pop-up windows that you do want to see!

You can allow the simulation to launch by changing your blocker's settings so that it allows pop-ups on this site only.

  • If you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 2, then see the instructions below.

  • If you are using the Google Toolbar's pop-up blocker, simply click this button:

  • If you are using a different pop-up blocker, then please refer to your blocker's help or documentation.

If you have Windows XP with Service Pack 2
Windows XP with Service Pack 2 comes with its own pop-up blocker. If it is active, then you should see the yellow bar as shown below:

To allow pop-ups for this site, simple click on the yellow bar, then choose "Always Allow Pop-ups from This Site..."

You can disable pop-up blocking in Firefox by un-checking the Block pop-up windows check box in the Content tab of Firefox's Options dialog.

Enabling Active Content in Internet Explorer

Active content will not run on your computer unless your security settings are set correctly.

To enable active content in Internet Explorer:

  • Enable the Allow active content to run in files on My Computer check box in the Advanced tab of Internet Explorer's Options dialog.
  • Enable the Allow active content from CDs to run on My Computer check box in the Advanced tab of Internet Explorer's Options dialog. This should be enabled if you are running a simulation from a CD.

Note that you will have to restart Internet Explorer for these changes to take effect.

Enabling JavaScript

JavaScript will normally be enabled in your browser's security settings by default. Simulations will not launch if it has been disabled.

Select the Active scripting setting's Enable option in Internet Explorer's Security Settings dialog.

To enable JavaScript in Firefox checking the Enable JavaScript check box in the Content tab of Firefox's Options dialog.

If you are using another browser please refer to your browser's help or documentation to find out how to enable JavaScript.

Enabling Java

Simulations may support the following Java Runtime Environments (JVMs):

  • Sun 1.3.1_02 or later
  • Sun 1.4.1 or later
  • Sun 1.4.2 or later
  • Sun 1.5.0 or later
  • Sun 1.6.0.or later
  • Microsoft JVM

If you do not have a JVM installed you can download and install the latest version from Sun Microsystems. Get the latest version.

To enable Java in Internet Explorer select it in the Advanced tab of Internet Explorer's Internet Options dialog.

To enable Java in Firefox check the Enable Java check box on the Content tab of Firefox's Options dialog.

If you are using another browser please refer to your browser's help or documentation to find out how to enable Java.
