Alliance Trust Equity Partners Limited ("ATEP") is the private equity division of Alliance Trust PLC. ATEP manages third party funds and invests on behalf Alliance Trust PLC. ATEP invests both directly in venture capital situations and also into funds private equity funds using a partnership approach.

ATEP’s direct investments in venture capital target early stage, high growth, technology opportunities with a focus on enterprise software and healthcare companies based in the United Kingdom. ATEP has the ability to be flexible in structuring investments and will typically lead or co-lead transactions.

Archangel Informal Investment is Scotland's leading Business Angel Syndicate. Originally formed in 1992 and based in Edinburgh, the syndicate now comprises around 100 investor members and invests c. £9m per year in early stage Scottish companies.

Scottish Enterprise is Scotland’s main enterprise, innovation and investment agency and is focused on supporting business growth and developing a competitive business environment. The organisation has a joined up investment approach which offers risk capital investment for Scottish businesses at various stages of growth through an innovative co-investment/shared-risk model pioneered by the formation of the Scottish Co-investment Fund. Scottish Enterprise was named by Library House as the UK's top institutional investor by number of deals in 2005 and 2006, and participates in around 55% of all investment in young Scottish companies.

Three funds are now offered by Scottish Enterprise: the Scottish Seed Fund provides equity and, in some cases, loan investments from £20,000 to £100,000 to early-stage businesses that meet the criteria and are keen to grow; the Scottish Co-investment Fund is a £72 million equity investment fund established by Scottish Enterprise, and partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund, to invest from £100,000 to £1 million in company finance deals of up to £2 million; and the Scottish Venture Fund was set up by Scottish Enterprise in conjunction with the Scottish Government to invest £500,000 to £2 million in company finance deals of between £2 million and £10 million.

Scottish Equity Partners (SEP) is one of the largest independent private equity groups in the UK, and is currently investing from a venture capital fund in excess of £100 million, which is backed by leading UK and European institutional investors. It typically invests between £500,000 and £5 million in early stage and growing companies, principally in the information technology, healthcare & life sciences and energy related technology sectors.
